A short drive from Newtown is Carisbrook Castle. This striking Saxon fortress stands on a ridge above the village with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside from its battlements.
We climbed up to The Ridge - the backbone of the island - and cycled along the Tennyson Trail past Carisbrook Castle and down into Newport.
