The IBWT plan aims to divert water from the Congo River watershed, more than 1,300km away, into the
Chari River that feeds Lake Chad.

The study area was located in southern Chad near the small village of Marabe (Moyen Chari region, Kyabe district), along the upper reaches of the
Chari River, where many infections in dogs have been recorded; the closest large town to Marabe is Sarh (3).
[30] that runs between the southern and northern parts of the lake, the splitting of the lake into two smaller lakes when the inflow is below the barrier [25], and the inflow from the southern parts of the basin through the
Chari River (Figure 2) that significantly determines the lake's behavior [25].
This diversion of water from the
Chari River for agricultural purposes has contributed greatly to the decreasing stream flows and the discharges into, and extent of the Lake Chad (Figure 1).
Six of the eight villages border the
Chari River. Because of late detection, none of the 10 patients were prevented from contaminating drinking water sources; therefore, continued transmission was expected during the 2011 dracunculiasis transmission season, typically the April-October rainy season in Chad, when many villages are not accessible by road from the capital.
Hundreds of people are fleeing the fighting, crossing the
Chari River to Kousseri, in neighboring Cameroon.
Today, because of actions like that, the fish are returning to the
Chari River in the Sarh region--as are other signs of prosperity.
These regions are located (1) along the south-west part of the Lake area (Nigeria), including large zones of the seasonally exposed lake-bed; (2) the Delta of the
Chari river, including the
Chari river itself and the south-east part the Lake shore (Chad); and (3) the Yaere floodplain located at the border between Cameroon and Chad, along the Logone river (see Figure 1).
The 194-room property, offering direct views of
Chari River, is located in the new and upmarket district of Sabangali in N'Djamena.
Since then, with periodic droughts and a massive decline in the volume of water from its main source, the
Chari River, it has been drying up at an alarming rate.
