or Ash·qe·lon  (ăsh′kə-lŏn′, äsh′kĕ-lôn′)
An ancient city of southwest Palestine on the Mediterranean Sea. Inhabited as early as the third millennium bc, it was a seat of worship for the goddess Astarte.
