moving average

n
(Statistics) statistics (of a sequence of values) a derived sequence of the averages of successive subsequences of a given number of members, often used in time series to even out short-term fluctuations and make a trend clearer: the 3-term moving average of 4, 6, 8, 7, 9, 8 is 6, 7, 8.

The exponential moving average method is used in the second part of the experiment.

Edwards and Magee (1992) imply that moving averages can be classified as simple moving average (SMA), weighted moving average (WMA) or exponential Moving Average (EMA) and linear moving average (LMA).
Exponential moving averages would clearly be unacceptable estimates of future dividends in a general case.
"Technically the market needs to close above 6,100 levels in the coming days to avoid the formation of a negative technical pattern known as a 'triple top.' Meanwhile, we are watching the index closely as compared to the 5 days exponential moving average as an early sign of weakness; the current level of this average is 6,011," said Faisal Alsayrafi, managing director and CEO of Financial Transaction House.

If it falls below the two-week low of 3,430.15 then the 200-day exponential moving average (ema) at 3,403.80 and down to 3,360 will be the next key support zone.
In the previous couple weeks the ADI failed to break through price resistance around the 200 period exponential moving average after hitting that area a number of times.
"Even though today's (Saturday's) drop has wiped off most of last week's gains of 242.64 points, it is still within norms after recent strength," Faisal Alsayrafi, managing director and CEO of Jeddah-based Financial Transaction House (FTH), said, adding on the technical side, the close at 5,871.57 is the first close below the short-term support of the 5 days exponential moving average for the first time since April 25 which may signal further weakness ahead.
