The unit of capacitance in the meter-kilogram-second system equal to the capacitance of a capacitor having an equal and opposite charge of 1 coulomb on each plate and a potential difference of 1 volt between the plates. See Table at measurement.

A unit used to measure electric capacitance. A capacitor in which a charge of one coulomb can produce a difference of one volt between its two storage plates has a capacitance of one farad.
A unit of capacitance. A conductor has a capacitance of one farad if a charge of one coulomb changes its potential by one volt.
