Shen·yang
(shŭn′yäng′) Formerly Muk·den (mo͝ok′dən, -dĕn′, mo͞ok′-) A city of northeast China east-northeast of Beijing. The capital of Liaoning province, it was the site of the so-called Mukden, or Manchurian, Incident (1931), in which the Japanese army used an explosion on the railroad north of the city as a pretext to occupy Manchuria.
