Yonge (1937) reported that many secretory glands occur on the pleopods of the female of the lobster Homarus vulgaris. These glands are identical in structure to the tegumental glands that occur everywhere beneath the epithehum, and Yonge speculated that the fertilized eggs are attached by a "cement" secreted by these glands at the time of egg-laying.
