I·va·no-Fran·kivs'k(ĭ-vä′nō-fräng-kĭvsk′, ē-vä′nō-fräng-kēwsk′) or I·va·no-Fran·kovsk (-kôvsk′, -kôfsk′)
A city of western Ukraine southwest of Kiev. Chartered in 1662 as Stanislov, it passed to Austria in 1772 and to Poland in 1919. The city was incorporated into the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1939.
