A range extending about 240 km (150 mi) along the French-Swiss border and rising to 1,720 m (5,643 ft). The area is a popular year-round resort region.

Laying the mountain line was complicated by the need for tunnels and gradients, but the outcome was particularly successful: one of the two tunnels under the Jura range, that of Loges, 3,259 m in length, was the longest in Switzerland.
