Kal·mar
(käl′mär′, kăl′-) A city of southeast Sweden on Kalmar Sound, an arm of the Baltic Sea between the Swedish mainland and Öland. The city was the site of the Union of Kalmar (1397), which joined Sweden, Denmark, and Norway into a single monarchy that lasted until 1523.
