1. A city of southwest Maine on the Androscoggin River north of Portland. Settled in 1770, it became a textile center in the early 1800s.
2. A city of northwest Idaho at the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers. It was founded in 1861 after the discovery of gold in the area.
