For many years I have drawn inspiration from a Chinese philosopher who was at UNESCO, who I think was called Lin Yu-t'ang and whose lesson I have never forgotten: 'Alongside the noble art of getting things done by others there is the no less noble one of letting them get done by themselves.' In the case of Diogenes they did not get done by themselves.
