Majali opened a Jordanian branch of Maktab al-Khidmat, the facilitation organization supporting the Islamist resistance to Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, and became a representative of Sheikh Abdullah Azzam in Jordan.
Sheikh Abdullah Azzam, who was killed in a 1989 car bomb in Peshawar, established Maktab Al-Khidmat lil Mujahideen (The Services Office for Arab Fighters, Maktab Al-Khidmat for short), the first establishment to undertake the organization, reception, and orientation of these young Arabs.
The cleric and professor was the Palestinian Abdullah Azzam, who first saw a need to organize Arabs arriving in Pakistan and began by establishing guesthouses for them in Peshawar that would be called the Maktab Al-Khidmat lil Mujahiddeen (The Services Office for Arab Jihadists).
