The tissues (cuticle, fat body, hemolymph, Malpighian tubule, midgut, and silk gland) of the fifth instar silkworm were collected from both control and BbHN6-infected groups from 8 hours after inoculation (hpi) to 54 hpi at intervals of four hours.
(a) Female mitotic metaphase; (b) male mitotic metaphase; (c) female pachytene complement with a WZ bivalent identified according to W-chromosome heterochromatin; (d) male pachytene complement; (e) a highly polyploid female nucleus of Malpighian tubule cells with a large sex chromatin body; (f) a male nucleus of Malpighian tubule cells without W chromatin.
Six larvae from each group were dissected to collect fat body, midgut, hemocytes, malpighian tubule and epidermis at different time points after injection, respectively.
[38], we determined the expression patterns of silkworm BTB protein genes on L5D3 in nine larval tissues, including ovary, testis, head, integument, fat body, midgut, hemocyte, Malpighian tubule, anterior/middle silk gland (A/MSG), and posterior silk gland (PSG).
This study examined the pattern of tissue expression of a putative NKCC in the tobacco hornworm, Manduca sexta, testing the hypothesis that NKCC is restricted to the Malpighian tubule. Malpighian tubule, midgut, nerve, fat, and salivary gland tissues were examined for the presence of NKCC by denaturing gel electrophoresis and western blotting, using a polyclonal antibody that we have developed against a C-terminal region of the M.
In this study, we have compared morphological variation within and between species of the melanogaster complex in sexual (testes length and area and the area of the posterior lobe of the genital arch) and nonsexual traits (wing length and width, tibia length, femur length, and length and area of the stalk connecting the malpighian tubule to the pyloric region of the ventriculus).
Fat body epidermis midgut silk gland ovary testis and Malpighian tubule were dissected or collected respectively.
The samples in 6 developmental stages (including egg, 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd- instar larva, pupa, and adult), and 3 kinds of tissue in the adult (fat body, midgut, and Malpighian tubule) were collected.
popilliae infections were diagnosed by removing a small portion of Malpighian tubule from each beetle and examining them microscopically for sporophorous vesicles (Andreadis & Hanula 1987).
The fat body, gut, Malpighian tubule and trachea from the 7-d old larvae were dissected in 0.75% NaCl and immediately used for RNA isolation.
Silk is produced in one of three positions on the insect body: in the labium (as modified "salivary" glands), Malpighian tubules, or in a variety of dermal glands.
