He appeared in The Goon Show (with Peter Sellers and Harry Secombe; BBC Radio, 1952–60) and his films include Postman's Knock (1962), Adolf Hitler, My Part in his Downfall (1972), The Three Musketeers (1974), The Last Remake of Beau Geste (1977), and Yellowbeard (1982). He was awarded an honorary knighthood in 2000
