American biologist. He won a 1933 Nobel Prize for his discoveries concerning the function of chromosomes and the arrangement of genes on them.

American zoologist who investigated heredity. In experiments with fruit flies, he demonstrated that hereditary traits are carried by genes on chromosomes and that traits can cross over from one chromosome to another.
