A standard cataract surgery with phacoemulsification was performed by one of two surgeons (NVV, VP) as follows: preoperatively, topical installation of NSAID (Naclof[R], Alcon, Texas) three times in 10minute intervals, corticosteroid and antibiotic (Maxitrol[R], Alcon, Texas) three times in 10-minute intervals, topical mydriatics, a combination of two eye drops, 1% tropicamide (Mydriacyl 1%[R], Alcon Pharmaceuticals, Hunenberg, Switzerland) and generic 2,5% phenylephrine, three times in 10-minute intervals, followed by topical anesthetic and iodine application performed in 5-minute intervals.
This class includes four anticholinergic agents: atropine, cyclopentolate (Cyclogyl), homatropine, and tropicamide (Mydriacyl).
Procedure: All eyes had several drops of local anesthetic (Alcaine Alcon Belgium) with dilatation of pupil (Mydriacyl 1% Alcon Belgium) before the procedure.
(7) We would recommend Mydriacyl [R] (tropicamide) which lasts up 6 hours.
After adequately dilating the pupil using 1% mydriacyl, detailed fundus examination was carried out to look for presence of diabetic retinopathy and its type.
