However, both explanations suggest that we are dealing with a word-family which is, at least, North-West Germanic rather than specifically North Germanic: if the terms are integrated in the same word-family as ON hadna, they can be compared with MHG hatele and MnLG hattel 'goat'; their derivation from PIE *kadh- would associate them with OE hod, OFris. hode, OHG huota 'hood', etc.
