The Roth analysts said they forecast peak sales for SLS-005 in
OPMD in the US to be $231.5 million, based on an estimated prevalence rate of 1:100,000, and assuming a 2022 launch in the US market, with an initial market penetration rate of 1% growing to 32% by 2028.
The AXO-AAV-OPMD program is an investigational gene therapy being developed as a one-time treatment for
OPMD. The program utilises an adeno-associated viral vector gene therapy to silence the mutant poly-A binding protein N1 (PABPN1) gene, which causes
OPMD and replace it with a functional copy of the PABPN1 gene.
OL is considered by the WHO as
OPMD. Malignant transformation of oral leukoplakia in annual average is 1%.
Prevention and early detection of
OPMD helps in the avoidance of oral cancer and the associated mortality and morbidity.
A recent case-control study has proven the association of
OPMD with the use of SLT and that its use could be more detrimental than the smoked form.
Habitual BQ chewing has been especially related to the occurrence and development of
OPMD [13, 14, 18] and oral/pharyngeal cancers [10, 11,19].
Hence, IBMPFD was excluded.[sup][12]
OPMD mainly manifested by limb weakness and oculopharyngeal muscle weakness caused by abnormal (GCG) n expansions of the first exon in PABPN1 gene.[sup][13],[14] The disease onset of
OPMD is usually more than 50-year-old and the disease seldom manifests deafness or visual impairment.
The areca nut (AN) is the primary ingredient in various BQ products, and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified the AN as a group I human carcinogen based on findings indicating that it is associated with an elevated risk for oral potentially malignant disorders (
OPMDs, such as leukoplakia, oral submucous fibrosis, erythroplakia, and lichen planus) and cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx, and esophagus [3-7].
Whereas individuals with Becker muscular dystrophy, limb girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD), oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy (
OPMD), and fascioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) are included in the analysis of some articles, most included studies focus on the experiences of those living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and myotonic dystrophy (DM).
These problems often require critical thinking and problem solving skills that are not adequately cultivated within the established Officer Professional Military Development (
OPMD) system.
