Introducing gaps in the ring part of the particle (split-ring resonators and omega particles) results in a particle which combines the inductive and capacitive behavior, and this is a way of influencing the resonant frequency of the structure.
(2) Differently positioned omega particles such as combinations of two or four omega and reversed-omega elements in the unit-cell can be used to design planar metamaterial radomes with an advanced performance.
