De acuerdo a los estudios que se han realizado con riqueza especifica y listados de avifauna en islas del sistema lagunar de Topolobampo y sobre aspectos poblacionales de Sula nebouxii en el Golfo de California se tiene que en la isla Patos, Bahia de Ohuira, Topolobampo, Sinaloa, en un estudio realizado por Medina y Serrano (2009) sobre avifauna marina durante junio-noviembre del 2009 se contabilizaron 10,107 individuos donde se lograron registrar 33 especies pertenecientes a 17 familias (Ardeidae, Anatidae, Cathartidae, Corvidae, Columbidae, Falconidae, Fregatidae, Haematopodidae, Laridae, Mimidae, Pandionidae, Pelecanidae, Phalacrocoracidae, Threskiomithidae, Tyrannidae, Scolopacidae, Sulidae).
