phase shift

n.
The displacement of one periodic waveform with respect to another of the same frequency, especially the difference between the input and output of a signal-processing device, such as an electronic amplifier or filter, caused by the processing of the signal. Phase shift is measured as the angle between two points on a circle representing the progress of the wave through its cycle.
