When Madeline was a toddler, she used a possessive article in front of each noun.
72, the marking "son detimbre, ireel, avec des oscillations de hauteur" is translated as "its timbre, unreal...." This is a mistranslation essentially it seems the author has interpreted the word "son" as the possessive article when in this case it means "sound." "Son" can not be a possessive article because "detimbre" is not a noun, nor does it mean "timbre." It is the adjectival form of "detimbrer," which has no direct English equivalent that I know of, but means "to cause something to lose its timbre." So the best translation here is "with de-timbred sound" or "timbreless sound." I apologize for the quibble on such a small point, but the interpretation of that marking is a relatively important part of the piece, and the different translation does lead to a very different reading of it!
(6) Gilbertese does have what Harrison (1988: 67) calls a "possessive article." This article is used to encode alienable possession, but this is qualitatively different from possessive classifiers that are attested in other Micronesian languages (Harrison 1988: 68).
