Rappist, Rappite

a follower of George Rapp, an early 19th-century German Pietistic preacher, whose experiments in a religion-based cooperative system involved the founding of Economy, Pennsylvania, and Harmonie, Indiana. Also called Harmonist, Harmonite.

The term Rappists (the followers of Georges Rapp) is at one point translated as "'Rappites'" (783) and at another as "'rappistes" (707), perhaps not as serious an error as translating a belief in Aryan supremacy ("Aryanism") as "'Arianisme'" (the Arian heresy [77I]).
