or Rem·brandt van Ryn  (rĕm′brănt′ vän rīn′, -bränt′) 1606-1669.
Dutch painter whose works often portray historical and religious scenes and are celebrated for their subtle expressions of human emotions. His works include a series of self-portraits as well as group portraits, such as The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp (1632) and The Night Watch (1642).
