(He does not note that one of Bishop Bagot's first rural deans in Oxford was John Henry Newman.) Rural deans were able to monitor the clergy in their parishes, and they held ruridecanal
chapters, which helped in the professionalization of the clergy and allowed them a participatory element that whetted their desire for more.
100Years Ago At a ruridecanal
conference, held at the Chantry of St Mary's Kidderminster, the question of the use of the revised version of the Bible was discussed, and a resolution adopted that where the authorised version is undoubtedly faulty, alternative readings from the revised Bible should be given in the margins of the Church books.
