Sethite, Sethian

a member of a Gnostic sect that regarded Seth, son of Adam, as the father of a pure race and considered the serpent as its deity.

The author concludes that while the origins of the library must have been monastic it was not necessarily Pachomian, that the readership would have been mainly middle-ranking Coptic, and that the manuscripts represented the outlook and membership of the Sethite sect.
