string theory

n.
A theory in physics in which tiny stringlike objects have modes of vibration that correspond to elementary particles. Such objects exist in a spacetime that has more dimensions than the familiar three dimensions of space, some of which are thought to be exceedingly small. String theory seeks to unify gravity with quantum theory.

string theory

(strĭng)
A theory in physics that views subatomic particles as string-like objects floating in space-time rather than as point-like objects. Space-time in string theory can have up to nine dimensions of space, plus the dimension of time.
