There are two sects among the Jains, the Svetambaras
- those who wear white - and the Digambaras - those who do not wear any dress.
are further divided into sub-sects, such as Sthanakavasi, Terapanthi and Deravasi.
Many readers will be familiar already with Jaini's work on the debates between Svetambaras
and Digambaras about the spiritual capacity of women.
The former are known as Digambaras ( " sky-clad " ), the latter as Svetambaras
( " white - clad " ).
