Tennantite, tetrahedrite, argentite, pyrrhotite and native gold occurred sporadically and sparingly.
In the Holiday Inn, Ivo Svegeny of KARP had a few fine specimens from a new pocket of
tennantite opened in spring 2009 in an unnamed mine in the great and famous Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan copper-mining district.
At the El Indio mill the 3,000 t/d of ore, part of which is also obtained from the Rio del Medio deposit located about 8 km to the north, is crushed and ground before passing to flotation, the principal economic minerals being enargite, pyrite (which carries gold), chalcopyrite, covellite,
tennantite, and tetrahedrite.
Copper minerals are atacamite and brochantite in the oxide zone; chalcocite, covellite, and pyrite in the enriched zone; and chalcopyrite, bornite, molybdenite,
tennantite, and pyrite in the hypogene zone.
Accessory chalcopyrite,
tennantite, arsenopyrite, silver, barite and lead sulphosalts also occur with the copper and barium phases tending to be most abundant in proximity to the Killoran and Derryville faults.
Stibioclaudetite occurs with leiteite, ludlockite, smithsonite and quartz in a vug within massive
tennantite from the Tsumeb mine, Tsumeb, Namibia.
When the formula amount of As exceeds Sb, the mineral is called
tennantite. The generally accepted upper value for the amount of Ag that can be present within the crystal structure of galena is about 3.6 kg/t (105 oz/ton).
A secondary sulphide zone contains chalcocite, covellite and pyrite accompanied by enargite,
tennantite, bornite and molybdenite, while the oxidation zone consists of ferrous oxides and hydroxides.
The ore minerals are mainly chalcopyrite and pyrite, with secondary molybdenbite,
tennantite, a little galena, sphalerite and chalcocite.
The original deposit possessed a leached capping of oxide ore averaging some 27 m in thickness, the principal minerals being malachite, azurite, cuprite,
tennantite, brochantite, antlerite and chrysocolla.
