n.1.(Zool.) Any spiral marine gastropod belonging to Turritella and allied genera. These mollusks have an elongated, turreted shell, composed of many whorls. They have a rounded aperture, and a horny multispiral operculum.

Construction was recently completed on the Turritella FPSO for the Stones field, an ultra deep water oil and gas development that will host the deepest production facility in the world.
Once installed, the FPSO Turritella will be operating at the world's deepest such offshore development site, covering a water depth of some 2900 meters.
