Las especies bajo estudio presentaron el patron de germinacion tipo Vittaria, coincidiendo con los resultados mencionados por Arroyo-Alfaro, Pelaez-Pelaez & Rodriguez-Rodriguez (2007) para las especies mexicanas de Microgramma y la mayoria de las especies de Pleopeltis incluida P.
nitida, Phlebodium decumanum y Vittaria lineata las que se ubican en la parte baja del intervalo altitudinal (0 m), mientras que Pleopeltis polylepis se presenta a mayor altitud (3200 m).
Sobre las caracteristicas de los gametofitos de Polystichum, se menciona que el tipo de germinacion de las esporas corresponde al tipo Vittaria, el desarrollo gametofitico al tipo Aspidium y Adiantum, y en los gametofitos laminares se describe la presencia de indumento formado por tricomas (Chandra & Nayar 1970, Gabriel y Galan & Prada 2010, Nayar & Kaur 1971, Nazario-Galindo & Arreguin-Sanchez 2007, Migliaro & Gabriel y Galan 2012).
