JERUSALEM, Thursday, May 09, 2019 (WAFA) -- The Government of Canada has provided the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) with a contribution of CAD$3.2 million (approximately US$2.4 million) to support 128,000 vulnerable Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, according to a press release.
'While we remain committed to the crisis response in the northeast, this plan provides new and wider entry points for our assistance in Nigeria in the future,' said Myrta Kaulard, WFP Representative and Country Director in Nigeria.
'We welcome different interventions being carried out through the support of WFP in the country for prevention of stunting, management of acute malnutrition and specially food fortification.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed by Mohammad Ishaq Khan, AJK's Secretary Planning and Development (P and D), and Ms Katrien Ghoos, WFP acting country representative, at P and D building here in the presence of AJK's Additional Chief Secretary, Development (ACS-D) Dr Syed Asif Hussain.
Syed Asif Hussain, briefed the mission of the WFP on the project which was being started under this MOU.
The agreement allows for the WFP and the government to share and expand their expertise on interventions in areas such as water management, nutrition, diversification of livelihoods, and increased agricultural productivity.
Dubai: The UN World Food Programme (WFP) on Sunday celebrated one of its team of unsung heroes' 20 years of selfless service for being the first on the scene during natural disasters, conflicts, wars to facilitate delivery of aid.
The chief minister said that the WFP has a long history of providing humanitarian and development assistance to the Sindh, working closely with government concerned departments, UN agencies and local International NGO partners to respond the emergencies food security and livelihoods needs identified in the province.
Since 2013 WFP has also been implementing nutrition sensitive interventions providing nutrition support to vulnerable communities with programmes, including the Community based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), Blanket Supplementary Feeding and Stunting Prevention.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said this while talking to a delegation of the WFP led by its executive director in Pakistan David M Beasley.
Welcoming the ED WFP, Ms Memon in her opening remarks appreciated the concern of WFP for offering support and facilitation to Pakistan.
