The Eon of Earth's Formation

The Hadean geologic eon began when the Earth was formed an estimated 4.6 billion years ago and ended approximately 800 million years later. There remain few geological traces of this period on Earth, but toward the end of the 20th c, geologists identified a few rocks and zircon crystals that dated to the Hadean. Eli Whitney's Cotton Gin Awarded Patent (1794)

By the end of the 18th century, the mechanization of fabric production in England had created a huge demand for US cotton, but cotton production was hampered by the large amount of manual labor required to remove the sticky seeds from the raw fiber. In the months leading up to January of 1915, Hodler made a series of paintings documenting what? More...

Canberra Day (2016)

Canberra, the capital city of Australia, was founded on March 12, 1913. Unusual in that it is one of the few world capitals planned from the ground up, the city and its giant ornamental pond, Lake Burley Griffin, were built out of a depression in a dusty plain about 200 miles southwest of Sydney. The city's founding celebration marks the end of the two-week Canberra National Multicultural Festival, an outdoor community event that encompasses everything from hot-air balloon rides and a car show to fireworks and musical performances.
