There has been a rapid growth in
electronic commerce activities as noted by many researchers (Leebaert, 1998; Korper and Ellis, 2000; Cheung, 1998; Maes et al., 1999).
The explosive growth of
electronic commerce is expected to continue along with the development of the Internet.
Working closely with AC/135, an
electronic commerce standards organization has developed an open use "catalog builder" application and a repository of open standards based on those used within the NCS.
The Internet Tax Freedom Act, enacted in 1998, prohibited state and local governments from imposing new taxes on Internet access services and from imposing any multiple or discriminatory taxes on
electronic commerce. In addition to establishing a moratorium on increasing the cost to access the Internet or enacting "pile on" taxes solely because transactions are conducted online, the legislation was intended to afford interested government and private sector parties time to resolve the important policy and administrative issues associated with the possible taxation of
electronic commerce, including the simplification of state sales tax regimes.
Minority suppliers must participate in this arena, since the future is
electronic commerce," explains Jethro Joseph, Senior Manager, Diversity Supplier Development at Daimler/Chrysler.
Factors at the individual Level influencing e-commerce activities Influencing the introduction of
electronic commerce or, more generally, new information and communications technologies (NICT) are individuals who react according to their perceptions of changes, together with their training, competencies and experience.
Electronic commerce programs focus on facilitating transactions, not on creating legally adequate records, and records managers therefore may not have been consulted in decisions about what e-commerce software to deploy.
And it will help them maximize the opportunities presented by
electronic commerce, because they can now offer more value-added services to their clients.
Senator Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) will introduce a placeholder bill, the "Internet Tax Moratorium and Equity Act", to ensure a place on the Senate calendar for a consensus bill he, Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.), and other senators are drafting to try to resolve
electronic commerce tax collection issues before the current moratorium sunsets on October 21, 2001.
Among legal issues that will continue to confront businesses this year in Latin America are labor policies, intellectual property rights,
electronic commerce and matters involving privatization, say several experts.
