This story has now been told twice, first in Robert Caro's 1974 scholarly biography The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York that criticised Moses as a czaristic public planner who recklessly destroyed neighbourhoods, displacing thousands of people in the process, and whose recreational facilities favoured the affluent.
