venustula Kunth) have
distichously arranged glumes (Vrijdaghs et al, 2009), and Scirpoides varius Browning present the glumes with spiral phyllotaxis but occasionally appearing almost distichous (Browning & Gordon-Gray, 2011).
Leaves simple, cross-opposite or
distichously, rarely alternate or verticillate, eucamptodromous or acrodromous.
0.9 cm wide, sublax, complanate, with 8 to14
distichously arranged lowers ca.
Although all these species have
distichously arranged flowers, however, with the exception of T.
Morphological variation in this species is high, particularly in the lateral blades that
distichously cover the flattened branches.
In species of Scleria, the glumes are disposed
distichously in the pistillate spikelets, while the subandrogynous spikelet, staminate spikelet, and androgynous spikelet have one proximal portion with glumes disposed
distichously and one distal portion with glumes disposed spirally (Camelbeke, 2002; Ahumada & Vegetti, 2009); this arrangement of the glumes is also characteristic of the bisexual spikelets of Abildgaardia ovata.
The flowers are densely
distichously arranged on the branches, but clearly move apart after anthesis.
Secondary or other order axes or branches are cylindrical or flattened in section, with a smooth or 'spiny (1)' surface, and are
distichously or spirally arranged.
