1. Any of various large nocturnal arboreal civets of the subfamily Paradoxurinae of Asia, especially Paradoxurus hermaphroditus, having gray or black fur and a long dark tail.
2. A mammal (Nandinia binotata) of the family Nandiniidae of eastern Africa, having spotted fur and a long tail and resembling a civet.
