We did get a nice new Peruvian coquimbite from a flat of newfound specimens similar to those described by Tom Moore in the last Tucson Show report.
As Jaroslav Hyrsl will soon explain in a new ''Peru Update" article, there was a find, in November-December 2009 in the Javier mine, Ayacucho Department, of what are probably the finest crystal specimens of coquimbite yet found anywhere in the world.
The deposit has produced an attractive suite of colorful, well-crystallized, hydrous sulfates including coquimbite, halotrichite, krausite, metavoltine, potassium alum, quenstedtite, r^merite and voltaite.
Coquimbite occurs rarely as pale violet-colored crusts.
