In July 1840, just in time for Glasgow Fair, he erected the "Apollo Saloon" on Glasgow Green directly opposite the Jail, where he announced his "Grand Mechanical WaxWork Figures, and Cosmoramic Views of the Eruptions of Mount Vesuvius" (Glasgow Constitutional 4 July 1840).

Also included were cosmoramic views which, in the case of the Bell Street Hall, were in the adjoining school room, where refreshments were also available.
Later still it became known as Monsieur D'Arc's Waxworks and Marionette Exhibition and boasted "Cosmoramic
and stereoscopic views (the latest and best), automatic penny drop models, fortune tellers, piano organ (latest tunes, two barrels)."
