A case was registered by CBI on 20.08.1983 on the basis of a complaint from Punjab National Bank, Calcutta alleging that Amalendu Bikash Das while working as Manager, Punjab National Bank, Zakaria Street Branch, Calcutta during the period from July, 1982 to May, 1983 and in collusion with six other private accused persons misused his official position and allegedly cheated the bank to the tune of Rs.91.86 lakh (approx) by forging, fabricating and defalcating the accounts books of the said bank.
