1. archaic the act of, or the state of having undergone, detorting; a twisting, perversion, or distortion
2. obstetrics the process of relieving torsion, or unnatural twists, within the body, notably those in the uterus or intestine
3. zoology the rotation of the internal organs of the larvae of certain gastropods through 90 or 180 degrees, back towards their initial position
