Es importante destacar que ambos ordenes hoy en dia pertenecen a dos clases diferentes dentro de la division Chlorophyta: Ulvophyceae y Chlorophyceae respectivamente (Graham, 2000), motivo por el cual es necesario en el futuro, llevar a cabo estudios citologicos, ultraestructurales y moleculares, como ya lo senalan algunos autores (Ettl & Gartner, 1995) para determinar la correcta ubicacion taxonomica de este genero.
