As part of our research on the synthesis and biological evaluation of thiosemicarbazones with potential antimalarial activity, we report here the synthesis of (2E)-2-(1-{4-[(7-chloroquinolin-4-yl)amino]phenyl} ethylidene)hydrazine carbothioamide, and its structural characterization on the basis of UV-vis, IR, ESI-CID-M[S.sup.2], NMR spectral data and single crystal X-ray diffraction data.
Plant sterols including sitosterol, campesterol, and stigmasterol are cholesterol-like molecules; the saturated analogues are suggested as effective cholesterol-lowering agents whilst those with ethylidene contain side chain that may behave as antioxidants [27,28].

Further HMBC correlations of H-11/C-10 and C-2 and of H-10/C-1 indicated that an ethylidene was fixed in C-2, and NOESY correlation from [H.sub.3]-11 to H-3 suggested the trans-configuration of double bonds between C-2 and C-10 (Figure 2).
