Perhaps the most dramatic demonstration of zinc's gastroprotective effects comes from yet another large Spanish study, (32) in which zinc was compared head-to-head with
famotidine (Pepcid[R]), a commonly used commercial anti-acid drug.
Because antacids are only effective for a short period, histamine -2 antagonists, like cimetidine (Tagamet), ranitidine (Zantac), nizatidine (Axid), and
famotidine (Pepcid), are often used for more frequent symptoms of as acid reflux.
pylori infections, doctors usually prescribe two antibiotics--including amoxycillin, clarithromycin, tetracycline, and metronidazole--along with an acid-lowering medicine such as Pepto-Bismol, ranitidine, cimetidine,
famotidine, omprazole, pantoprazole and lansoprazole.
Socalled [histamine.sub.2]-receptor antagonists include ranitidine (Zantac), cimetidine (Tagamet), and
famotidine (Pepcid AC).
Despite the fact that the patient was removed from her work environment for > 3 years, her symptoms persisted and warranted several daily medications including a budesonide inhaler, a formoterol inhaler, loratidine, budesonide nasal spray, omeprazole,
famotidine, venlafaxine, and albuterol (as needed).
To date, the only one of these drugs to be approved for children is
famotidine.

famotidine) are also available over the counter but should not be used long-term without seeking medical advice.
Delavirdine should not be taken with the following: alprazolam (Xanax), midazolam (Versed), triazolam (Halcion), carbamazipine (Carbatrol, Tegretol, Tegretol XR), phenobarbital, phenytoin (Dilantin), cisapride (Propulsid), cimetidine (Tagamet),
famotidine (Pepcid), nizatidine (Axid), ranitidine (Zantac), rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane) or rifabutin (Mycobutin).
She is allergic to penicillin, codeine and iodine and her current medications include: digoxin 0.25 mg PO qd, carbamazepine 400 mg PO at pm and 200 mg PO at am and noon, lisinopril 10 mg PO qd, warfarin 5 mg PO qd and
famotidine 20 mg PO qhs.
In most cases Rennie or Bisodol will do the trick, but if you want the best then ask your pharmacist for cimetidine, ranitidine or
famotidine (Tagamet 100, Zantac 75 and Pepcid AC).
Medications used to reduce stomach acid include cimetidine, ranitidine,
famotidine, and omeprazole.
