Recent work from a number of Groups (Farins, Martins, Bullaivant n Leeds; Wang and Williamson at Microsoft, Cui at Stanford) has proposed a new type of topological quantum field theory based on what is known as a higher category, or a higher

gauge theory. These field theories are based on crossed modules (or G-crossed categories).

She is the first woman to be awarded with an Abel, and she was recognized specifically for "pioneering achievements in geometric partial differential equations,

gauge theory and integrable systems, and for the fundamental impact of her work on analysis, geometry and mathematical physics."
