A "pedestal fan" is an iconolater, who looks up at the pedestalised one.
While the iconolaters saw the images as only reflections of God, the iconoclasts feared the icons because they sensed the "omnipotence of simulacra, this facility they have for erasing God from the consciousnesses of people, and the overwhelming, destructive truth they suggest: that ultimately there has never been any God; that only simulacra exist; indeed that God himself has only ever been his own simulacrum.
