The buthid scorpion genus Rhopalurus Thorell 1876 comprises 18 species and three subspecies (one nominotypical) of relatively large, lapidicolous (Prendini 2001a) scorpions with a discontinuous distribution in the Greater Antilles (Cuba and Hispaniola) and northern South America (Brazil, Colombia, Guyana, and Venezuela) (Appendix 1).
