Related to lepton: Lepton number, leptin

Any of a class of six elementary fermions, two in each of the three generations of fundamental fermions (one negatively charged and one neutral), and including the electron, electron neutrino, muon, muon neutrino, tauon, and tauon neutrino, together with their associated antiparticles, the antileptons. Leptons participate in weak interactions, but not strong interactions, and have masses generally less than those of mesons and baryons.

As useful phenomenological scenarios, special textures of lepton mass matrices and corresponding flavor groups are introduced to predict mixing parameters of neutrinos.

A quark and an antiquark may annihilate to form a lepton. There are two possible types of quark-antiquark annihilations.
From the experimentally accessible quantities, four triple products can be formed: R J * (p X s), D J * (p X [p.sub.v]), V J * (P X s), L P * (p X s), where J is the spin of the parent system, s, p are the spin and momentum of the detected lepton, P denotes the momentum of the recoil system and [p.sub.v] stands for the momentum of the unobserved neutrino.
Until now, experimenters could find only hints of tau neutrinos' presence, such as energy and momentum missing from decays of the particle called a tau lepton. Nonetheless, scientists haven't doubted the existence of the tau neutrino, also known as nu tau.
Perl found that when electrons and positrons (antielectrons) were smashed together at high energies, still a third variety of lepton was produced.
