The possibility of a future circular collider will be examined during the strategy process, together with the other post-LHC collider option at CERN, the CLIC linear collider
The ILC and the PWFA-LC mean International Linear Collider
and Plasma Wake Field Accelerator Linear Collider
Dr Evans, director of the Linear Collider
collaboration at CERN, Switzerland, said that persuading more students to choose sciences as A-level subjects would have a major positive impact on Wales' competitiveness - and he called on teachers to find new ways to ignite youngsters' passion for the subject.
Chief among them are the High Luminosity LHC, the Compact Linear Collider
(CLIC), and the Future Circular Collider (FCC) studies.
Just a week ago, a group of researchers backing the International Linear Collider
project picked the Kitakami mountain area in the Tohoku region as the Japanese candidate site.
For future, CERN is developing the technology for the Compact Linear Collider
Aberdare-born Swansea University physics graduate Dr Lyn Evans, who directed the building of Cern's atom-smashing Large Hadron Collider (LHC), is now project director of its planned big brother - the cataclysmic International Linear Collider
Instead of whirling atoms at each other in giant underground rings, the linear collider
will fire them in straight lines on a 31-mile track.
Plans including the building of a 50-kilmotre (31-mile) tunnel called the International Linear Collider
have long been under discussion and scientists now need to find funding so that a machine could be turned on by 2025.
Caltech physicist Barry Barish is the director of the global design effort for the International Linear Collider
, which is currently in the planning stages.
"An electron-positron collider is the natural successor to the LHC and it turns out the wake fields are much more severe in these linear collider
machines," he added.
